More Than a Member: Shirley’s 35-Year Journey with FFCU

Authored By: Gwen Schajatovic Crenshaw on 6/26/2025

For over 35 years, Shirley has trusted Florence Federal Credit Union—not just with her finances, but with her heart. With a warm smile and the confidence of experience, she proudly tells others, “I’m not a bank person, I’m a credit union person.”

It’s a distinction she makes often, especially when asked about the difference between the two. “They are both financial institutions,” she explains, “but they are totally different.” For Shirley, that difference comes down to one thing: family.

“Everything is so personalized and thoughtful,” she says. That care and connection became especially meaningful during some of the hardest moments in her life. “When I lost my son, and then my mother, I got a sympathy card in the mail from the credit union. They were the only business to do that. It made me feel a part of something . . . like we are a family.”

That sense of belonging is why she’s remained a loyal member for decades. But Shirley also appreciates the practical side of her credit union membership—especially the peace of mind that comes with Florence Federal’s 24/7 fraud protection.

“It was amazing to me that my credit union could notify me if something was wrong with my card,” she says. “It made me feel really good.”

From thoughtful gestures to modern protections, Shirley’s story is a powerful reminder that at Florence Federal Credit Union, you're more than a number—you're part of a family.
