Meet Moira - The FFCU Employee Who Beat Cancer
Meet Moira.
Moira has been a Florence Federal Credit Union teller for just shy of a decade, though the word “shy” does not describe her at all. She is vibrant, gregarious, tenacious. Moira demonstrated this to the world in November of this past year, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. By the end of that same month, Moira had already returned to Helen Keller Hospital for a lumpectomy and returned home that very afternoon. She underwent twenty-one rounds of radiation treatment at the Singing River Cancer Center.
...Did we mention she continued working all the while?
Members often tell us how much they enjoy seeing her. One shared, “Moira is always pleasant to chat with and always has something positive to say.” It’s true — she has a way of making everyone feel seen and welcomed. Her presence reminds us that behind every breast cancer statistic is a real person, with a real story, and real strength.
Her determination and resilience were matched by the support she found around her — from friends and family to coworkers and community organizations like the Shoals Community Clinic, the Alabama Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program, Alabama Breast Cancer Medicaid, and the BRAT Pack. Together, they helped her navigate the journey with strength and hope.
Then, on March 11, 2021, just four months after her diagnosis, Moira rang the Cancer-Free bell — a sound that marked the end of treatment and the beginning of a new chapter. But for those who know her, that moment wasn’t a surprise. It was a testament to the unstoppable force that is Moira.
At Florence Federal Credit Union, we stand with Moira and everyone affected by breast cancer — our employees, our members, our families, and our community. This month, and every month, we honor the fighters, celebrate the survivors, and remember those we’ve lost.
Together, we fight. Together, we hope. Together, we stand strong.
